The Town FC returned home after losing Minnesota United FC 2, and we’re ready to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. A warm, sunny evening in Moraga, California was the setting for the matchup as the Town FC look to continue their impressive run at home.
The Town FC has an impressive record at home, so far, in which they’ve been able to play well, even against teams that are higher in the standings. The Town FC have played well throughout this season and they remain one of the top teams in MLS Next Pro. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 have also played well this season, and they also remain a team that is in contention for the playoffs.
As the whistle for the match to begin, it took The Town C only about 30 seconds to get on the score sheet as defender. Aaron Edwards recorded the first goal for the game and took the lead immediately. The momentum was favoring The Town FC from the beginning, and it allows them to be aggressive, offensively, and create chances.
In the 14 minute, it appeared that there was a goal by Eduardo Blancas. From the ground point of view, it appeared that the goal had been clean. There was a discussion between the sideline referee, who did raise his flag for offsides, and the discussion concluded they ruled no goal.
The Town FC continued to put pressure very early in the game and it was Aaron Edwards who was able to get his second goal of the game within the 31st minute. Edwards continue to put himself in position throughout the game and it was all his scoring that mattered in this game. He was able to finish the game with a brace.
The two teams will continue to go back-and-forth and although the chances were created, the next opportunity to score came with in the 56 minutes when a penalty kick was called by the officials. Cruz Medina was given the attempt at goal, but it was denied by the Vancouver goalkeeper Borhmer.
The Town FC were able to finish the game with a 2-0 lead, and give them self, a little bit of separation in the playoff contending mix. The race currently is tight between teams at the top of the standings, but The Town FC continue to play in good form, and look continue to get the results that they want. After the result of the game, both Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 and The Town FC sit tied in the standings in a crowded playoff race.
The Town FC travel to the home of the San Jose Earthquakes, PayPal Park, for their next matchup as they take Tacoma Defiance on August 25th.
