The 2024 MLS Season has not been kind to the San Jose Earthquakes, and you can sense the frustration from players. The team has had a rough start to the season where they seemed to have tried so many different line-ups, yet they haven't been able to secure points. The team went into their home match-up against the Colorado Rapids with a total of three points, and they were looking forward for another chance to secure points. It was a semi-rainy day, and that was only to add to the setting to come on the pitch.
Colorado has started off the season with an impressive fixture table leading up to their game against San Jose after defeating LAFC and drawing with Inter Miami. They were looking to continue form, and they did just that. San Jose has struggled totaling the highest amount of goals allowed. Although the rain lightened up, the goals were about to come in Rapids.
Within the first ten minutes, a foul was committed in the box by San Jose Goalkeeper William Yarbrough resulting in a penalty attempt. The Colorado Rapids were able to convert, and take a early lead. Moving throughout the game it seemed that the Earthquakes had chances, but they couldn't sync to get the ball in the net. The possession battle was in the Quakes favor, but it is clear that something isn't connecting right. The team has made many changes to their starting eleven, but still up to this point we haven't seen how this team can come together for a full 90' in order to secure points. Although San Jose had their attempts, Colorado was able to get their attempts past the keeper on three different times with two goals coming in the second half. Colorado's Cole Bassett and Rafael Navarro were the goal scorers who gave Colorado a 3-0 lead, and this would end up being the games final result score. At this point of the season, although it is still early, the Earthquakes are nearing a danger zone, and something has to be done. San Jose takes on their rivals from the south in LA Galaxy in their next matchup. LA Galaxy has been one of the better teams this season, and it will be clear that this next task will not be an easy one for the Quakes.
